Scripture: Romans 3: 3-4 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Observation: If you tell me you are a FBI special agent, and I say "I don't believe it". If you really were a FBI special agent, the person's disbelief doesn't change that fact. In the same way, people in our society seem to think that if they don't believe in God that it makes them not real.
Application: God is God, whether you believe what that he is or not! Nowadays people are taught moral relativism in school, that we somehow each have our own little world that is just as we believe it is. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are some things that are true, whether you believe them or not!
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for your truth. You are truth. Help us to understand your truth without error. Let us know you intimately. Amen.

Word of God
Scripture: John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
Observation: John 1:1-2 is a psalm, a song or poem in classical Greek chaistic form. The first and last phrases are pairs, and the middle two phrases are pairs. Each pair explains its partner, and the two pairs contrast and complement each other. The psalm establishes and meditates on the deity and preeminence of Jesus Christ, the Word of God. Jesus is both the creator of all things, and he is one with the father God. Jesus is the most high God, and he is before everything.
Application: Our God is a God of beginnings. When you have a problem in your life, and things are not going your way, our God is a God of new beginnings. Jesus is Lord of all, and he is in the business of new beginnings. If you need a new beginning in your life, turn to him. You have not, because you ask not. Give your situation, and your life to the God of new beginnings and let him make a new beginning for you and your situation.
Prayer: Heavenly father, give us this day our daily bread. Help us in our time of need. We cry out to you and declare our love to you. Know us and make known to us your ways. Take our lives and make them new. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Jesus is here!
Scripture - Luke 10:17-20 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Observation: The seventy disciples had just returned from ministering in various cities, and they were ecstatic that evil spirits and sickness were subject to their words, through the name of Jesus Christ. Wouldn't you be excited? How cool would it be to see the works of Jesus Christ being done through the words that came out of your mouth! It is interesting how Jesus responded when they told him this. He said that he saw Satan falling like lightning from the sky. When the disciples were miles away ministering in other cities, as they cast out a demon or healed a sick person, Jesus saw the battles being won in the spiritual realm. This somewhat analogous to a son calling up his father who lives out of town to tell him about the great baseball game that his team won, and the father telling him that he knew because he saw it all on television.
Application: In our lives with God, we tend to think in one of two ways. Either we think that God is somewhere out there, and we are somewhere else and that he is not really involved. Or we tend to think that God is micro managing all of our affairs, and if we could just fully submit to him that he would work great miracles in our lives. This scripture shows something different. Yes, the disciples did the works in Jesus Name, but Jesus was right there in the spirit. He was watching, authorizing, and ensuring that things spoken in his name came to pass. Jesus is active in our ministry, but Jesus is not ministering for us. We are ministering for him!
Prayer: Thank your Jesus that you have given us your name. We rejoice that you have given us authority on earth. Thank you that you never leave us. Let us trust in you in a new and deeper way this day. Amen!

The wrath of God
Scripture: Luke 9:54-56 And when his disciples James and John saw [this], they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save [them]. And they went to another village.
Observation: The disciples had assumed that Jesus would pour out his wrath on those who dishonored him. Their assumption was based on what God did in the past. He did destroy towns and people groups in the past. Why the change? Why was the ministry of Jesus different than the ministry prior to Jesus?
Application: Many people today make the same assumption that the disciples did. People assume that God is out to get somebody. People attribute natural disasters to the wrath of God. People go so far as the attribute the death of children to God's actions, and so on. Jesus clearly states that he came to save lives, not to take them. John 10:10 tells us that it is Satan who comes to steal, kill, and destroy, and that Jesus is come that we have life. The difference between the God of the old testament and the God of the new testament is the work of Christ at the cross. He took the wrath of God for us, and we are not subject to it any more. He gave his life for ours. The ministry of Jesus exemplified this fact.
Prayer: Dearest Jesus, thank you for what you did for us at the cross. Thank you for giving your life so that we can have an abundant life in you. Thank you for taking our punishment upon yourselves. Thank you that you became forgiveness for our sins. We accept you, and devote our lives to serving you with the honor you deserve.

Trust Him
Scripture: Luke 5:4-11 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto [their] partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw [it], he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so [was] also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

Pray
Scripture: Luke 5:3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's,and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
Observation: Often our understanding of scripture depends on our language. When we think of prayer, we think of someone bowing their heads, perhaps folding their hands or kneeling, and speaking reverently to God. The word "Pray" does not have that connotation at all. Here Jesus commanded them to push the boat out into the water so that he could preach.
Application: We should pray like Jesus prayed. When we pray, we should ask or command fully expecting that it be done, and if it is not done, we should make sure it gets done! When we are his, Jesus has given us authority to ask whatever we want in his name, and that it would be done! (John 15:7). Jesus didn't say " Oh heavenly father, if it be thy will, please move the boat out in the water" Rather he said, push the boat out into th water so that I can teach the people.

The Powerful Word
Scripture: Luke 4:32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
Observation - Jesus spoke with great power, and with the authority of all mighty God. Wouldn't you like to hear him speak? God in his sovereignty has preserved the words of Jesus, and we can hear them today... just as they did 2000 years ago.
Application - The words of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as recorded in scripture carry the same power as when they were spoken and recorded. The word of God is powerful, and we, by his spirit, carry the same authority of Jesus Christ when we are in alignment with his word. As believers we should consume his word, and we should utilize his word for his purposes.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I love you Lord. Keep me this day in the center of your will. Let me walk in your authority and power through your word and your spirit. Keep me humble, and yet let me walk with your authority. Amen

Are You the Christ?
Scripture: Luke 3:15 - And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
Observation: John the Baptist preached a hard word, of repentance from sin and sacrificial giving. His message was much like Christ, but different. We don't have record in the scripture of John doing great miracles like Jesus did, and yet we see that the people questioned whether he was the Christ or not.
Application: There seems to be a similarity between the message of John, and what we preach today... and the contrast to the message of Jesus Christ. Just as they ask of John ... One could ask of us, the Church, whether we are the Christ? Is the Church today the hands and feet of Jesus, or are we as John preparing for the return of Jesus Christ, or both?
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for your word. Thank you that you have given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Thank you for your goodness. Help us to be found faithful to you. Let us be loyal and true to you in all things. Amen

Grace to You
Scripture: Luke 2:40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
Observation: Here we see young Jesus, and one of the few descriptions of his childhood. Luke says that he grew strong in the spirit, filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. We know what Jesus did, his works, his ministry, how is it that the Grace of God is what enabled him? And is that the same Grace of God that is ours in Christ Jesus?
Application: Ephesians 4:7 says "unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of Christ". Is the same grace that empowered a young Jesus into his ministry the same grace that is given unto us as his followers?
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for your grace, that you gave to us. Let us walk in the grace that you gave us each day. Let your ministry be our ministry. Let our hands be as your hands. Let our hearts be as your heart. Fill us anew this day with your grace. Let the peace of God, and his grace be upon us this day. Amen

He paid the price
Scripture: Mark 14:18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
Observation: In this chapter, we see Jesus establishing what we today call communion. However, before he establishes communion with the disciples, he must first deal with the sin in the room. One of his disciples has fallen to "The Love of Money", and is soon to betray Jesus for money.
Application: As the Apostle Paul articulates in 1 Cor 11:27-30, we should not partake of communion when we have known sin that we have not been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:9 says"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleans us from all unrightousness". This is the way to prepare for communion, and for any other day or hour in this life. When we accept the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, we are clean and ready to fellowship with him. Jesus died for our sins, past, present and future. Let us accept his life, and dedicate our life to him.

Passion for Eternity
Scripture: Mar 13:1-37 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings [are here]! And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what [shall be] the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any [man] deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am [Christ]; and shall deceive many. And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for [such things] must needs be; but the end [shall] not [be] yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these [are] the beginnings of sorrows. But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published among all nations. But when they shall lead [you], and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against [their] parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here [is] Christ; or, lo, [he is] there; believe [him] not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if [it were] possible, even the elect. But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven. Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, [even] at the doors. Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. [For the Son of man is] as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
Observation: In Mark 13, Luke 21, and Matthew 24 we see three listeners perspective on a very crucial teaching Jesus gave his disciples which we call the olivet discourse. Jesus is answering his disciples question on when the temple in Jerusalem will be destroyed. Jesus answers not only the destruction of the temple, but he also tells them about when he will return again. Jesus tells his disciples that all the earth will see him coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and glory. In this teaching Jesus says that this generation will not pass away before these things happen, but he also says that no one knows the hour that they will occur. It appears that the reference to this generation not passing away is applicable to the destruction of the temple, and that the reference to no one knowing the hour is applicable to the return of Jesus Christ.
Application: Jesus tells us to watch for his return, and to be ready! He also warns us against false teaching and impostors. God loves us, and he wants us to be with him in this perfect place he has created for us. He doesn't want us to miss it. His heart yearns for us, and like the perfect father, he has given us the information we need to be successful.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus that you have prepared a place for us. It will be so wonderful to leave the cares of this world behind, and enjoy eternal bliss with you and with our loved ones. Help us to watch and know the things we need to do in the coming troubles that will proceed your return. Let us keep our eyes fixed on you, the author and finisher of our faith! Amen

God loves us, and he wants us to be with him in this perfect place he has created for us. He doesn't want us to miss it. His heart yearns for us, and like the perfect father, he has given us the information we need to be successful.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus that you have prepared a place for us. It will be so wonderful to leave the cares of this world behind, and enjoy eternal bliss with you and with our loved ones. Help us to watch and know the things we need to do in the coming troubles that will proceed your return. Let us keep our eyes fixed on you, the author and finisher of our faith! Amen

The Power of God
Scripture: Mark 12:24 - And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Observation: How can we comprehend the power and ability of God? Consider all the stars and solar systems in the universe... created by him, spoken into existence? Consider the billions of people on this planet, he knew them all before the beginning of time. The scriptures tell us of his power and ability, it is there for us to understand.
Application: There are several other scriptures that use the same Greek word for power. They tell us that this power that Jesus spoke about is something that he gave to his disciples, and others. The scriptures also tell us that if we can believe, we can do all things in this same power. This authority is ours to use in his name, according to his will, and his purposes. His power is in the scripture, and in his spirit that lives inside those who are called by his name. Reference to this power and ability can be found in: Mark 5:30, Mark 9:30, Luke 9:1, Luke 10:19, Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8

Divorce
Scripture: Mar 10:2-12 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away [his] wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put [her] away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same [matter]. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
Observation: After Jesus gave this message, his disciples came to him afterwards and told him "this is a hard saying". Today, this is still a hard saying. We have cases of abuse, neglect, and various other crimes committed in marriage. With our divorce rate over 50%, marriage is in trouble!
Application: This scripture, combined with others on the subject gives us a fairly complete instruction on marriage, separation, and divorce. In this scripture, we see that divorce is clearly called out as being wrong. In all cases, divorce is sin. One partner or the other is always in sin. And in most cases, both are in sin. This is a hard teaching, but it is the truth. When we try to gloss over, or adapt the truth into something it is not because it is difficult, we get into all sorts of trouble. There are other scripture on this subject that allow, and even encourage, separation. Separation is a Godly alternative to Divorce, and it is Biblical. If someone is already divorced, this should be handled like any other sin; confessed, forgiven, and cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. If we are divorced, or married, or single, we are admonished to be content in that state.

The Greatest
Scripture: Mar 9:35-36 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, [the same] shall be last of all, and servant of all. And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
Observation: Whoever wants to be the greatest, should be the least? How can this be. Jesus teachings often follow what I call "the backward principle". This scripture is perhaps the most explicit of the backward principle. Spiritual things are often backward of natural things. The spiritual and natural world fit together more like two pieces of a puzzle. Each piece of a puzzle is the mirror opposite of the other, two pieces that are the same would not fit together ... only opposite pieces fit together. And yet the two pieces to not provide a picture without each other. In the spiritual sense, a leader must be humble and must serve others. Real influence is only granted be those being lead, it cannot be taken or coerced.
Application: Do you want to be a leader at your work, at your home, in your social circle? If you are a Christian, you are called to lead. Our place is to rule and reign with Christ Jesus, and that place begins here an now. You must serve others to lead, and you must consider their needs before your own. You must give of yourself, expecting nothing in return. This is the way of Jesus, the path of the cross, laying down your life for others. That is leadership!
Prayer: Dear Jesus, let us lay down our lives for those whom you died for, daily. Let us give and expect nothing in return. I pray that I would have the strength of Jesus Christ in my daily ministry to others. Amen.

Can You?
Scripture: Mar 9:22-24 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things [are] possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Observation: In verse 22, we see the father of the demon possessed child ask Jesus if he "Can" do anything to help him. The Greek word for "Can" is a variation of the word "dunamai" of which we get our word dynamite. The term implies having power or authority to do something. "Can" is a good translation of this word, but the implications of what the father was asking are significant. If the father had known that Jesus was God, would he have really asked him if he had authority or power to do anything? We know that all authority and power was given to Jesus. This father evidently didn't know that. It was this unbelief that Jesus had to counter to help the man and his child. In verse 23 Jesus uses a play on words to show the father what he is missing. The father had asked Jesus if he "Can" and so Jesus tells the father that if HE "Can", then he "Can" believe then he "Can" do all things. The issue was not Jesus' power and authority, but rather the father's lack of belief was inhibiting the power and authority of Jesus being demonstrated in his life. The father saw his mistake, and his son was healed.
Application: We don't so much need to be concerned with God as we do with our lack of belief in God. If we "Can" trust in God fully, then we don't to worry about what God "Can" do in our lives. If we "Can" belief in him fully, then we "Can" do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us. We have the authority as believers, in his name, to do all things. However, to the degree that we trust and believe in him, we will see those things come to pass.
Prayer: Lord, We believe in you, God help us with our lack of trust. Amen

An atmosphere of unbelief
Scripture: Mar 9:17-19 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
Observation: So who was it that did not have faith? One might assume it was his nine disciples who stood watching and were unable to cast out the spirit. One might assume it was the Scribes who Jesus questioned when he arrived on the scene. Or it could be the father of the boy who spoke with Jesus. The Textus Receptus Greek seems to imply Jesus was speaking to the father, answering his question. This follows a spiritual principle that the father would have had spiritual authority over the boy since the boy was not yet of age. Thus the unbelief of the father would prevent the deliverance of the son. But certainly everyone was listening and Jesus would have considered that in his response. All involved had contributed to an atmosphere of unbelief, and Jesus had walked right into the middle of it. It was this atmosphere of unbelief that made the work of God difficult for Jesus' disciples to accomplish.
Application: How can we avoid developing an atmosphere of unbelief? Unfortunatly, we live in a society that is filled with unbelief. It is all around us, and it seems to be the default for whom we encouter. Most church services today begin with a time of worship, prayer, and Bible reading. These things help reduce and atmosphere of unbelief. Later in this chapter, Jesus instructed his disciples to fast and pray to overcome this type of unbelief. Many ministers who see miracles at their services will first teach on healing or deliverance before praying for those things to help disuade the atmosphere of unbelief and build up faith.
Prayer: Father help us to know your will. Let us discern spiritual things. Let us spend time each day in prayer and fasting. Let us work in your discipline and your authority to accomplish your will on earth, as it is in heaven... this day! Amen

Power and Purpose
Scripture: Mark 9:14-16 And when he came to [his] disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to [him] saluted him. And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
Observation: Jesus had just taken Peter, John and James up to the mountain where they witnessed the "transfiguration" of Jesus Christ and heard the voice of the father. When Jesus returned he saw a commotion, and it didn't take him long to figure out who was the cause of it. Jesus, being God, knew that the spirit of the Scribes and Pharisees was at work. He had warned his disciples of this spirit, that it was like yeast, and would multiply and grow quickly. Jesus had left the weaker nine disciples, and left on their own, they did not do well. They were quickly trapped and accused by the scribes. An atmosphere of unbelief had manifested and the nine disciples were not able to perform the miracles they were accustomed to.
Application: Satan always preys on the weaker ones in the flock. We need to be watchful of his traps. As leaders we need to do as Jesus did, warn, teach, ready, and stay close to our team member who might be vulnerable to the attack of the enemy. If Jesus had not intervened, this situation could have been fatal for the nine disciples. Later in this chapter, Jesus identified that prayer and fasting were needed to overcome this type of situation. Through prayer and fasting our spirits become strong and we are able to instantly discern situations just the way that Jesus did. Prayer and Fasting are essential for spiritual leadership. We must always be in the anointing of God to be victorious and accomplish God's purpose on the earth.

Can we do Miracles like Jesus did?
Scripture: Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Observation: It is interesting that of all of the miracles Jesus did, they had all been done before. Here we see Jesus calm the sea. Moses also demonstrated authority over the sea. We see Jesus raise the dead, Elijah, Elisha, and others also raised the dead. We saw Jesus heal and cast out demons. Many prophets and his disciples also did these same miracles. Even the resurrection of Jesus is similar to the translation by Enoch and the raising of the dead person who was thrown on the bones of Elisha.
Application: It is clear to anyone who reads the Bible for what it says that Jesus is God, and we are not. However, the miracles Jesus did were by the same power of the Holy Spirit that he gives to us. And as Romans 8:11 tells us, we have that same power that raised Christ from the dead, then why should we not also be able to do the same miracles? The answer is multi-fold, first we should realize that we must hear and do what Jesus told us to do. We each need to read the word, and inventory our selves to see if we are in line with it. Second, we need to live by the spirit and not by the flesh. The power that raised Christ from the dead is in our spirit, not in our flesh. We must learn to deny our flesh and allow our spirit to become dominant. To the degree we can do these things, we should begin to see that power that raised Christ from the dead operate in our lives.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I love you. I thank you for dying so that I could have life. I thank you for sending the Holy Spirit. I thank you for loving me enough to make me a new person in you. I pray that my flesh would be crucified, and that I would feed my spirit daily with your manna from heaven. Help me to keep my focus on you all day, every day. Help me to grow closer to you so that you and I can be one, just as you are one with the father.

Beware
Scripture: Mat 16:11-12 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake [it] not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
Then understood they how that he bade [them] not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Observation: Yeast is everywhere, it is in every breath of air, it only needs a warm moist place to grow. Bad doctrine has a way of sneaking into our belief system. It doesn't come knocking on our door, it slips through the cracks in our walls and windows. But once it begins to grow from the inside, it seems as if it belonged there all along.
Application: The Apostle Paul told his church plants to believe nothing other than what he taught them. That seems pretty narrow minded, but he understood that the truth of who Jesus Christ is, is all sufficient. Every supposed truth we hear needs to be put to the test of scripture, and it it is not what the scripture teaches it should be discarded.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to remain true to you until the very end. We know that there are wolfs and snakes seeking to trick and devour us, but we put our trust solely in you and the work Christ did on the cross for us. Thank you Lord.

Renew Your Strength
Scripture: Matthew 15:29-32 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there. And great multitudes came unto him, having with them [those that were] lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel. Then Jesus called his disciples [unto him], and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
Observation: Ministry is tiring. Jesus had been ministering several days and so as was his habit he retreated to the mountain to renew his strength. However, as it often happened people followed him, thousands of people followed him, and he had to minister to their needs.
Application: Like Jesus, we need to retreat and renew our strength. Like Jesus, the world will want to pull us back in. Like Jesus we need to take care of those things that absolutely must be done, but all the other things should be postponed so that we can retreat while the Lord renews our strength.
